Pt 2 - February and Russell's big news x 2 :)

This month has been a big one for our family, and especially Russell.  Actually it started last month but Russell was promoted to the Whitney Intermediate School principal.  He is loving his job now, he loved the HS as well, but really loves the job as the principal.  He is getting used to the little ones and is diving head first in all the duties he has.  He has gotten many compliments on how the school is going so far.  He is enjoying the new position and we are as well.  He is home sooner in the evenings and has less duties at night.
He was also inducted as a deacon in our church.  That is such an honor and an opportunity to serve God.  It was a very moving ceremony and so blessed by those that came to celebrate with us.  What an example of being a servant to the church and to our Lord for our children.  So proud of him!

Here are a few pictures from this past month...

It has been a busy few weeks.  Hill County Fair went well.  The kids placed with all of their projects and got to auction off their 1st place items. Peyton sold his for $125 and Jaedyn sold hers for $100.  Both were excited.  Thank you to Daddy and Grama for their help.  We are now into President's week so we are studying about past presidents.  Jaedyn is going to teach Peyton how to make a powerpoint with his report he is doing on Washington.  She has chosen Ronald Reagan for her presidential report.  We will see how it goes.

Jaedyn had her mid-year gymnastics show.  She did a great job as always.  So proud.  She even came home last week and had landed her first back handsprings.  She is now taking private lessons a couple of times a month to practice even more.  So glad she is motivated and working toward a goal.
Peyton has been busy planning his birthday party.  Football all the way.  He just wanted a simple party at home with cake, hot dogs, and a bunch of boys playing football in the yard.  :) Works for me!

We are moving right along in our homeschool studies.  We have been listening to some Adventures in Odyssey CDs which the kids love, especially Jaedyn.  We are also doing a bible challenge at church to bring your bible every time you attend and to read at home.  Pretty successful so far.

Baseball sign-ups are this weekend.  Peyton has pretty much decided he wants to sign-up.  So looks like we will be doing some baseball watching this spring.

Another post coming right up after this with some of Russell's happenings lately!
Have a blessed day!

Back in the swing of things...

Well we are back into the swing of things with homeschool, church, and household duties.  One major change in our home is that Russell has a new job.  He is now the principal at Whitney Intermediate School.  He has been wanting to be in charge of his own school for quite some time and he is blessed with this opportunity at this time.  Praying that God's plan will be revealed and He will work through Russell in this new school.  The kids and I are excited because it might mean he is home more in the evenings.  There will be many less extracurricular activities in the evenings.  So more time at home.  Russell will also be ordained at our church soon as a deacon.  We are so proud of him.  He is busy but we know he is doing things he is called to by our Lord.  He has special talents that are being used to glorify Him.
I am praying this week's cold spell brings about the end of these allergies, especially cedar.  UGH!  About to get me! We are being extra cautious at home and as we have to go out in the community to wash hands and stay away from those that are obviously sick.  So many are sick right now but praying that we are spared from it.  Peyton has been so blessed this year.  Since we started homeschooling he has had no problems with his asthma and very little trouble with his allergies.
Our homeschooling is going well.  This first year has served as a great learning experience for us all.  I have learned so much about my kids.  I have been able to provide discipline in areas as they arise immediately and help build their character, as well as shape their attitudes.  Math has been a struggle for us all.  I am not a great math teacher so I feel for the kids.  Peyton throws fits (which we have worked through consistently with discipline) because math seems "long" (longer than it was in 1st grade naturally) and he doesn't want to do it.  Jaedyn is so good in math because she has had some good math teachers (she still talks about Mrs. Fallwell and how great a teacher she was:).  However as with any year, things get harder and more in depth and the work is more involved.  We are struggling with GCF, LCM, cancellation, etc.  She knows them well but struggles as we go onto something else and come back to review it.  So glad we can stop and go back and review for an extra week if she needs it that have to move on because of others. Peyton has started working on regrouping.  He does so well. Catches on the first time usually.  But complains just because he doesn't want to do anything. :) typical boy! But overall I am pleased that they are learning at their pace, being challenged, being disciplined, learning true history, learning through their environment and interests, solving real world problems, and learning to manage their own time and resources.
Just a few years ago this would not have even been in the realm of possibility for me or my family.  Funny how God can change your mindset and how things appear to you to work according to His plan.  He has done so many things through Russell and I to change our family and our focus.  I am so blessed through all of these things, yet I know that this is only the beginning.  I pray for His mercy and grace on days where I fall so short and I pray for His forgiveness when I do things that break his heart because of my sin.  I want to teach my kids how to live for Him, seek Him in all situations, and to be His light in all times.
Sorry so long today.   Just sitting here helping the kids as they work and reflecting on the last couple of weeks and how blessed I am to have this life.

Other things we are working on this week:
*Finishing my in-home photography studio - few last minute things to get done before Valentine Mini Sessions
*Completing our Hill County Fair projects.  Of course Peyton is making things out of wood.  Jaedyn is baking something, making a wreath, and working on another collage.
*Next Friday, January 31st, we are headed to the Perot Museum for a Whitney Homeschool Field Trip
*We had our first playdate since Christmas this past Monday.  Was such a nice day and a good turnout.
*Mom is coming this weekend.  The kids are so excited to visit and have her help them with their fair projects.

Have a blessed rest of the week and weekend!

Some New Year's musings...

Just taking a few moments to think...

Wanting to try AGAIN at some of these and REALLY wanting to make some of these part of my everyday... gotta give it my all...

1.  Breaking the phone habit

2.  Being mentally present for my kids during their school and our time together

3.  Making time for each role that God gave me...not just expecting it to naturally fit in... like wife time, mother time, photographer time, Children's director time, child of God time, etc.

4.  Read my Bible more and not just to check it off a list...actually learn/understand it.

5.  Devote time to my home

6.  Watch my tone!

7.  Learn more WB and lighting techniques for my business.

8.  Take time to stop!

9.  Less time on the computer/more time on the couch with my kiddos.

10. Listen and enjoy time with my husband.

11. Consult the Lord on everything...give it to Him and not control everything!

There are a couple that are top priority.  And I am off to a decent start.  Each day I will convict myself to do better and be better.

Here's to an awesome 2014 with my family and the Lord as our guide!

Halloween 2013... hoping this isn't the last year!

Halloween was a bit different this year with us not rushing home from school or somewhere to dress up and rushing through trick or treating to get in bed for school the next day. Whitney did trick or treating on the Saturday before so that helped but it also helped that we weren't wearing ourselves out because we could make our own schedule the next week :)
When looking through pinterest for Gage a costume, I found the cutest Peter Pan one.  After I showed the kids, they decided they could be costumes that would go with his. So early in August we already knew Jaedyn and Mikah would be the Tinkerbells and Peyton would be Captain Hook.  At first Peyton didn't really want to go with that because Captain Hook was the "bad guy" but since he was Jake last year, he compromised! And he got to carry a sword, really that's all that mattered!
So here are a few pics from that night!  I sure love that my kids love to just be kids... hoping we have a few more years of costumes.  I love them so!  Jaedyn's was made by Grama, of course, and was just beautiful!

The kids favorite part was trick or treating and hanging out with Gage.  He was in rare form that night!  All hyped up.  Every time we would leave someone's house or get in the car, he would scream at the top of his lungs "Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye!"  and then break out into a hilarious belly laugh.  We all got a kick out of him!  He had a blast and so did we!

Our schooling is going well.  Making some changes, tweaking things, finding supplemental materials to make some of our concepts more fun. I want learning to be a journey and to be interesting and fun for my kids.  Trying to incorporate more of that into our day and the process of learning.  Not just memorization or learning one concept and then setting it aside.  It is our first year.  Lots of things to work through and try to make better and also knowing to let some things go.  Not everything that is out there that is "supposed" to be learned actually has meaning to each individual.  Learning lots about myself along the way...

God bless you this weekend!  I have been advised more than once this week.  Take time to enjoy and just breathe!
